Monanock Paper Mills Edge IX: Texture
Monadnock Paper Mills, Inc. has released the latest brochure in its Edge series entitled Texture. This edition is a study of screening processes and was designed to show brilliant COLOR on Monadnock Astrolite Smooth, Monadnock's most popular finish. The cover of Texture is Astrolite Silk 100 lb. cover and the text is Astrolite Smooth 65 lb. cover.
Texture features the photographs of Hugh Arnold in a series of elegant portraits whose unusual hair arrangements are complimented with background images of natural fibers and plants. Print comparisons are made between conventional 175-line AM screen images and 20-micron dot FM stochastic images.
Rich Beahm, Manager of Quality for Monadnock noted, "The stochastic process seems more forgiving. Skin tones seem to benefit by omitting the blotchiness sometimes created by conventional screening. Gradations in general appear smoother, but the solids are weaker and less rich because less ink is deposited." We learned that Monadnock papers print very well in both conventional and stochastic screening methods. Process control management is especially important in the stochastic process.
