Monadnock Paper Mills Edge VI: Specifying Quality
Monadnock Paper Mills has released another in its Edge Series,
"Specifying Quality." In 23 interviews with leading printers, designers
and corporate specifiers, Monadnock asked what role paper plays in
their work overall and who is responsible to make the paper
specification.
The result is that all view paper as the backbone of their work and
virtually everyone interviewed deliberately specifies premium paper for
much of their printing and design. In a difficult economic environment
quality remains important and specifying the proper paper for each job
is seen as a fundamental task especially among designers.
Deanna Kuhlmann Leavitt of Kuhlmann Leavitt, Inc., St. Louis,
Missouri, asserts, "Ultimately, responsibility for selecting the paper
lies with me." This comment and comments related to printability, brand
enhancement, and client business strategy can be found in "Specifying
Quality.
"Specifying Quality" is printed on Monadnock Astrolite® Silk Finish
65lb. cover and Monadnock Dulcet® 65lb. cover offering a contrast
between brilliant white and neutral white shades of paper. Mixing paper
of different shades helps to pace the brochure and demonstrates the
influence of paper shade on transparent offset inks.
Portraits of the printers and designers are rendered in half-tone,
duo-tone, tri-tone, and quad-tone, all at 175-line screen with a
dot-for-dot satin varnish. A variety of match colors were used to tone
the images.
